GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania – After a tough loss on Saturday evening, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team had a quick turnaround for their next match up. Salem traveled north on Monday to play Seton Hill University and to get back into the win column. However, Seton Hill was able to prevent a late Salem comeback and secure the win by a score of 77-72.
In the first half, the game started out slow on offense for both teams as Seton Hill held a 9-6 lead with 13 minutes left. Seton Hill was able to stretch the lead out with a 17-5 lead over the next 5 minutes of play. At this point in the first, Seton Hill had a 26-11 lead with just under 8 minutes left. The Tigers desperately needed to cut into the lead prior to half. Unfortunately, to close out the half Seton Hill was able to maintain a big lead. Seton Hill led Salem 38-24 at the half.
In the second half, the Tigers got off to a solid start led by
Kapone Barley who scored 6 points to keep Salem in the game. Midway through the second, the Tigers got the lead down to 6 with some important baskets coming from
Tyree Davis and
Isaac James. With 10 minutes left, Seton Hill had a 58-52 lead over Salem. Over the next 5 minute of play, both teams were going back and forth with Seton Hill still maintaining a 6-point lead.
Tyree Davis scored a key bucket with 50 seconds remaining to cut the lead down to 3. Unfortunately, Seton Hill would knock down some free throws and were able to close out the game. Seton Hill ended up holding off the Tigers comeback and secured the 77-72 victory.
In the stats sheet, the Tigers had 5 scorers with 10 or more points.
DJ Harrell led the way with 18 points.
Isaac James had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Tyree Davis also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds
Despite the tough loss, the Tigers will have a chance to regroup as they prepare for their next contest. Salem will travel to Wheeling on Saturday for a 4 PM match up against the Cardinals.
