SALEM, West Virginia- Ahead of the holiday break, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team had one more home game. The Salem Tigers would face off against Davis & Elkins Senators on Wednesday evening at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium. Salem was looking to get a big victory in the last home game of the calendar year. The Tigers were able to do just that as they secured the victory by a score of 82-69.
In the first half, the Senators were able to jump out to a quick 8-3 lead in the first few minutes of play. However, the Tigers struck back quickly to tie it up a 9 with some important baskets coming from
Daquan Coleman. With 10 minutes remaining, Salem had the slight edge with a lead of 22-21. The Tigers were able to get some offense rolling to close out the half and go on a 21-12 run. At the half, Salem held a 43-33 lead over Davis & Elkins.
In the second half, the Tigers were able to maintain the lead after triples from
Daquan Coleman and
Jalen Barnes happened around the 16-minute mark. Over the midway point of the second half Davis & Elkins was unable cut the lead down. The Tigers held a 66-54 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the contest. Salem was able to extend their lead even further with a few layups by
Kevin Constant around the 4-minute mark. The Tigers were able to hold a steady lead the rest of the half and cruise to a 82-69 win over the Senators.Â
In the stats sheet,
Kevin Constant led the way for the Tigers with 20 points and 4 rebounds.
Jalen Barnes and
Tyree Davis both scored 14 points and 4 rebounds.
Daquan Coleman also added 12 points.
After a big victory, the Tigers will improve to 2-7 on the season and will now look to build off this win. Now the Tigers will prepare for their Saturday evening away match up against West Virginia Wesleyan College at 4 PM.Â
