Tigers Take Two in Regional Roundup at The Bridge

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - Fresh off their opening sweep on Wednesday, the Salem softball team took on one of their most unique chances for competition this season. The Tigers played host to a 5 team Regional Roundup at the Bridge Sports Complex that included teams from Virginia, Ohio, and New York playing continuously across 2 days of competition. For the first day of the event, Salem took on Virginia Union and Ursuline on the turf field at The Bridge on Friday afternoon. Salem played well in both contests, and came away with a pair of wins. Each contest played out as follows:

Salem 10, Virginia Union 0

For Game 1 for the Tigers, Salem played the Panthers of Virginia Union. Salem got their bats warm quickly, and controlled the contest from start to finish. It all got started with a RBI triple from Meladie LaRance, and then Ricki Garay brought in LaRance with an RBI single of her own. Then, Charlee Johnson added an RBI double, and Syriah Trujillo added an RBI single to round out the 4 run first inning. Salem then added 3 more runs in the 2nd with Charlee Johnson, Ricki Garay, and Kaydee Anderson all driving in runs for the Tigers. Salem added three more runs in the 5th, and pushed the contest past the run rule threshold to wrap up the game after 5 innings. In the pitcher's circle, Salem got another dominant debut performance. This time it was  Clarksburg native and Alderson Broaddus transfer Franchesca Alvaro, who allowed just 1 hit and struck out 7 Panthers in her Salem debut

Salem 8, Ursuline 3

For the final contest of the day, Salem took on the Arrows of Ursuline College. Offensively, Kaydee Anderson got things going with a double that cleared a bases loaded situation for the Tigers first 3 runs. In the 5th, Salem pushed their advantage with Abigail Harki and Charlee Johnson who each added 2 RBIs off of a single and double respectively. The Arrows made a brief rally in the 6th, but Salem answered right back with a sacrifice fly from Abigail Harki that brought in the final run of the contest. From the pitcher's circle, Salem got a pair of strong performances. The veteran starter Andrea Gallegos controlled the contest in the first 5 innings to earn the win, and Kendall Lemley sealed the victory with a pair of strong innings down the stretch.

With a pair of wins for Day 1 of the Regional Roundup, Salem will be right back on the field tomorrow when they take on D'Youville at 11 AM, and then Malone at 5 PM in the final contest of the event. All of the contests from the second day of the competition will be broadcasted live from The Bridge Sports Complex beginning at 9 AM on February 24th.
