Salem Takes Tough Split Home From Notre Dame College

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - After weather and scheduling conflicts wreaked havoc on the Tiger's original plans to take on Notre Dame College back on March 20th, Salem finally got a chance to face off with the Falcons up in South Euclid on Wednesday afternoon. Salem opened up well despite some blustery conditions to take Game 1, but were stung in Game 2 to result in the split on the day. Each contest played out as follows:

Salem 3, Notre Dame College 1

In the first contest of the day, the cool conditions seemed to keep both sides of the contest from getting much going offensively. The Tigers broke the deadlock when a single from Kayla Williams and a walk from Jazmyn Moetului both yielded runs for the Tigers when both runners made it home off a Falcon passed ball. With the 2-0 advantage, Charlee Johnson added to that with her first collegiate home run in the 4th inning to make it 3-0. From there, Notre Dame mounted a comeback bid in the 6th by adding a lone run, but the Tigers' defense was able to shut the door to seal the hard fought 3-1 win. In the pitcher's circle, Andrea Gallegos earned the complete game win and punched out a pair of Falcons batters' in the process.

Notre Dame College 13, Salem 3

Despite the momentum of the Game 1 win, Salem had a tough time getting the bats going in Game 2. The Falcons controlled the game by scoring in each of the first 4 innings, but then Salem got the rally they needed in the 5th. It started with a Sierra Chapa double that brought in Kaydee Anderson, and then Meladie LaRance singled to score Kayla Williams. Ricki Garay then grounded out, but Sierra Chapa scored from third to make it 6-3. Unfortunately, that is where the offense dried up for the Tigers, and the Falcons rode a big 5th inning to put the contest well out of reach 13-3. In the pitcher's circle, Salem moved to the platoon system with starter Brooke Wise, Kendall Lemley, and Andrea Gallegos combining to strike out a pair of Falcons in the contest.

The Tigers will be able to get back to The Bridge Sports Complex for some home cooking in their next set of contests. They have a pair of weekend doubleheaders set against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins College on the docket for Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
