Tigers Stifled Against Golden Eagles

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After rain across the Atlantic seaboard spoiled the Tigers plans for a doubleheader in Canton, Ohio on Wednesday, the Tigers softball team was chomping at the bit to get back on the field. They had the tough task of taking on regional power Charleston at home on Saturday afternoon at The Bridge Sports Complex. Unfortunately, the Tigers simply could not keep pace with the Golden Eagles, and fell in both contests. Each game played out as follows:

Charleston 12, Salem 1

In Game 1, the Tigers opened in step with Charleston early on. Kaydee Anderson launched a ball over the left field fence in the bottom of the first to keep the Tigers in the game after the introductory frame. However, that lone bright spot was where the Tiger's offensive output ended for the contest. The game eventually ended 12-1 in favor of the Golden Eagles after 5 innings. In the pitcher's circle, a platoon system of Kendall Lemley, Andrea Gallegos, Brooke Wise, and Destiny Coble yielded the Tigers a pair of strikeouts.

Charleston 10, Salem 0

For Game 1, the Tigers were able to create more chances than Game 1 as they tallied 4 hits in the contest. However, they were unable to bring anyone home, and the Golden Eagles quickly gained a commanding lead. That lead therefore held, and the contest concluded at 10-0 after 5 innings. Offensively, Salem was led by Sierra Chapa, who contributed a pair of the Tigers hits on the day. Just behind her was Alyvia Pittman and Meladie LaRance who each had singles of their own. In the pitcher's circle, Kayla Williams got the start for the Tigers, then Kendall Lemlely and Destiny Coble finished things out for the Tigers. As a group, the Tigers' pitching staff combined for another pair of strikeouts in Game 2.

Salem will need to rebound quickly in order to prepare for their next set of contests. They are set to take on the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State on Sunday, April 14th at Noon at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
