GLENVILLE, West Virginia - After the Tigers were foiled against Concord on Saturday, the Salem softball team headed over to Glenville State for a Sunday afternoon doubleheader. Unfortunately, it was a tough stay for the Tigers in Gilmer County, and Salem fell in both contests. Each one played out as follows:
Glenville State 8, Salem 0
For Game 1, the Tigers again had difficulty getting the bats going against the Pioneers. They found just a pair of hits in the contest. Both were singles off the bats of Meladie LaRance and Ricki Garay in the 4th inning. As to be expected, the Pioneers controlled the contest from the opening frame, and controlled the whole way to the 8-0 final score in the 5th inning. Andrea Gallegos and Brooke Wise combined to handle the pitching duties for the Tigers, and they finished with 3 strikeouts between them.
Glenville State 9, Salem 0
For Game 2, it was unfortunately more of the same for the Tigers. This time around they completed the contest with 4 hits in the game. Sierra Chapa had 2 of those hits including a base knock to start off the game. The other 2 came from singles by freshman Charlee Johnson and Marissa Jeffery. Yet again, the offensive woes of the Tigers were enough for the Pioneers to pull away with the 9-0 victory over Salem. In the pitcher's circle, Kendall Lemley, Brooke Wise, Kayla Willams, and Destiny Coble all made appearances for the Tigers in the loss.
Despite the tough results today, Salem will continue their road swing against local rivals in their next contest. They are set to take on West Virginia Wesleyan down in Buckhannon on Wednesday, April 24th at 4 PM.
