DUBOIS, Pennsylvania - With the Salem Baseball season officially wrapped up, the USCAA has announced that 3 Tigers have earned postseason awards for their efforts this season on their way to a successful 32-18 record this season. These awards were announced as part of the USCAA Small College World Series which kicked off on Sunday. The three honorees are as follows:
Mackenzie Wainwright - USCAA All-American First Team
After a remarkable debut season, Mackenzie Wainwright has certainly earned the All-American honors. He has been dominant in every facet of the game. He concluded the season with a team leading .449 batting average, 16 home runs, and a staggering 63 RBIs. He has also shown his athleticism in the field as a utility player by spending time at all 3 outfield positions in addition to first base.
Tyler Shinn - USCAA All-American Honorable Mention
In contrast to Wainwright's brilliant debut season, Shinn concludes his Salem career with an equally dominant performance. A starter in all 50 games for the Tigers at either designated hitter or catcher, Shinn has a .348 batting average with 11 home runs, and a team leading 66 RBIs on the year.
Luis Angarita - USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year
The final honoree for the Tigers is Luis Angarita, who earned the USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year. This award goes to the student-athlete throughout the organization that shows high levels of achievement both on and off the field. Angarita has clearly showcased both. On the field, he has been a stalwart at 2nd base for the Tigers, and has a successful season from the plate as a switch hitter. Off the field, Angarita is heavily involved in the greater Salem community through community service efforts with the baseball team, and his leadership role as President-Elect of the Salem University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
While the season of competition is over for the Tigers' baseball team, these accolades certainly should add some extra energy to the offseason recovery and preparation for the 2025 campaign for Head Coach Kassidy Gaines' squad.
