DUBOIS, Pennsylvania - After a late night yielded a big offensive output from the Tigers on Tuesday night, the Salem softball team had a new tough task in front of them. Needing three wins to advance to the final day competition, the Tigers knew they had a tough road in front of them. Undaunted, Salem pushed forward, and continued their offensive renaissance they started on Tuesday night. First, they grinded out a win over Penn State New Kensington, and then they added 2 blowout wins over Carlow and Penn State Mont Alto to advance to the championship round of the tournament. Each of today's contests played out as follows:
Salem 6, Penn State New Kensington 3
For Game 1, Salem took on Penn State New Kensington, and the Tigers got off to a quick start. They opened up the scoring with an RBI double from Ricki Garay in the first inning to bring home Brooke Wise. Then, they added three more runs in the 2nd off of RBI doubles from Abigail Harki and Kayla Williams, and an RBI single from Meladie LaRance. New Kensington answered with 3 runs of their own in the 4th and 6th innings, but Kayla Williams helped the Tigers seal the victory with a 2 run home run in the 7th. Kendall Lemley was effective for the Tigers from the pitcher's circle with the complete game win, and she struckout 6 Lion batters in the process.Â
Salem 9, Carlow 0
For Game 2, Salem faced off with the Celtics of Carlow. The Tigers pulled out a dominant performance, and controlled the contest handily from start to finish. Brooke Wise and Syriah Trujillo got the Tigers on the board with a pair of RBI doubles. Alyvia Pittman then added a single that brought home Trujillo, and then Abigail Harki put the finishing touches on that 5 run opening frame by adding a 2 RBI double. Ricki Garay added another RBI double in the 2nd, and Syriah Trujillo knocked another RBI in with a single in the same inning as well. Kayla Williams then put the icing on the cake with a 2 run home run in the third that pushed the Salem advantage up to 9-0, and the Tigers cruised to the victory in 5 innings. Andrea Gallegos pitched very well for the Tigers to earn the complete game win, and set up the Tigers for a rematch with Penn State Mont Alto.Â
Salem 16, Penn State Mont Alto 3
In Game 3, Salem faced off with the same Mont Alto team that knocked them out of the initial rounds of the tournament. Clearly looking to enact some revenge, the Tigers uncorked the best offensive game they have had all season with a total of 16 runs on 16 hits including 4 doubles and a home run from Charlee Johnson. 2 of those doubles came from the offensive leader for the Tigers, Brooke Wise. Wise hit 4-4 on the day with 2 singles and 2 doubles to bring in 3Â RBIs. Alyvia Pittman also had an effective day from the plate with 3 RBIs on a pair of hits. In the pitcher's circle, Kendall Lemley logged her second complete game win of the day, and helped the Tigers seal the rare 3 game sweep.Â
The Tigers will now head on to the Championship round where they will face off with the #1 overall seed, Penn State Brandywine. The first of potentially 2 contests for the Tigers will take place at Noon on Thursday, May 16th in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
