Salem Foiled at Ohio Christian Tri-Match

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - As the colors are beginning to change north central West Virginia, the Salem volleyball team headed over to central Ohio for a tri-match hosted at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio. Salem took on the Olivet Comets, and then the host Trailblazers. While the Tigers had their moments, they ended up falling in both contests. Each one played out as follows:

Olivet 3, Salem 0

In the first contest of the afternoon for the Tigers, it was the Olivet Comets out of Michigan faced off with. Salem battled with the Comets throughout the first set, and even held a late lead at 22-20. However, a late rally spoiled the set for Salem, and the Tigers fell behind 1-0. The Tigers kept the pressure on the Comets in the next two sets, but were unable to secure a victory. On the stats sheet, Salem was led offensively by Valentina Poti who logged 7 kills in a resurgent performance. Arianna Parsley had a solid day for the Tigers with 11 assists and 11 digs.

Ohio Christian 3, Salem 1

For the second contest, Salem faced off with the host Ohio Christian Trailblazers. Much like Game 1, the Tigers fell behind initially, but pushed back for a hotly contested first set. The set was tied up late in the set at 17-17, but the Tigers were not able to seal the set win. Salem stormed back in set 2 however with a well-earned 25-22 win. However, that would be the high point for Salem as they were unable to build on that momentum. Therefore, the Tigers dropped the final two sets, and fell 3-1 overall. On the stats sheet, it was a good performance for Hailey Haynes who tallied up 13 kills and 2 blocks in the contest. Mikaela McEvoy also played well by logging 17 digs in the match.

Despite the setbacks today, Salem will have ample opportunity to get back in the swing of things this week. Salem returns to T. Edward Davis Gymnasium for a contest against Davis & Elkins College at 7 PM on September 24th.
