BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia- After a long off-season of preparation, the Salem Men's Soccer team started its season Thursday afternoon. Under the leadership of first year head coach Greg Gilmore, the Tigers played host to nationally ranked Millersville University.
The first part of the game was scoreless until Millersville was able to get the first goal of the game on a penalty kick at the 27:50 mark. With an early lead, Millersville added to it with another goal at the 38:12 mark to make it 2-0 going into halftime.
Millersville started the second half with a goal at the 54:52 mark pushing their lead to 3-0. The Tigers fought back quickly when
Giancarlo Pardo assisted Felipe Gonzales Maldonado to score the first goal of the game for the Tigers at the 55:54 mark. Giancarlo scored a goal at the 67:09 mark that was assisted by
Ricardo Gallego Curto to cut the lead down to one. Millersville scored the final goal of the game at the 73:42 mark to extend the lead to 4-2.
Despite the tough loss this afternoon, the Tigers will have a chance to reset ahead of their next contest. That contest will be down in Raleigh, North Carolina on Monday, September 9th to take on Shaw University at 3:30pm.
