Tigers Tab Pedro Rodrigues to Lead Women’s Soccer Program

SALEM, West Virginia - With the Valley of Learning slowly thawing out from last week's winter storms, there is some exciting news about the future of Salem Women's Soccer. Salem had brought on former West Virginia Wesleyan assistant coach Pedro Rodrigues to lead the Salem women's soccer program.

Rodrigues comes to Salem after two seasons working with the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats program. In his time in Buckhannon, he was part of building an improved Bobcat squad that clinched their first conference tournament bid since 2020. Rodrigues' experience in soccer is deep as well. He has been coaching at the high school and club level for over 10 years prior making his entrance into collegiate coaching at West Virginia Wesleyan. Pedro also holds a US Soccer C License and a Sport Management degree from the University of Florida.

In regards to the new hire, Athletic Director Alex Joseph said "We are really excited to bring on Pedro to lead our women's soccer program. He has a level of enthusiasm that we feel will bring a lot of energy to the program. Additionally, we feel that he is well suited for building up the program on the field, in the classroom, and in the local community."

Rodrigues had this to say in regard to the future fo the women's soccer program. "I am excited to join Salem University as the Head Women's Soccer Coach and bring my passion for building high-performance environments. I want to thank Athletic Director Alex Joseph and the search committee for trusting my vision for the women's soccer program. My coaching philosophy takes a process-oriented approach to technical and tactical development while emphasizing the character traits that define successful student-athletes. I look forward to cultivating a culture of growth and high standards to elevate Salem Women's Soccer to new heights."

The Salem Athletic Department is excited to welcome Pedro into our community, and we look forward to helping him build the Salem women's soccer team into the high level program that we all believe it has the potential to be.
