FAIRMONT, West Virginia- After a two game homestand, the Salem men's basketball team was back on the road on Saturday. The Tigers headed north on I-79 for a match up against the Fairmont State Falcons. Salem was looking to pull off a huge win against Fairmont. Unfortunately, the Falcons got off to a good start and cruised to a 93-76 win over the Tigers.
In the first half, Fairmont got out front first to a 14-10 start with 14 minutes left. The Tigers would tie the game up at 25 with 7 minutes left in the half after a
Kevin Constant triple then free throw. Both squads would go back and forth over the next 4 minutes with the game still knotted up at 36. Fairmont would close the half out with a slight lead. The Falcons headed into the half with the 41-39-point lead over the Tigers.
In the second half, the Tigers took the lead after two jumpers from
Jalen Barnes and a triple from
Tyree Davis. Salem led 46-44 with 18 minutes left in the game. However, the Falcons went on a huge 14-4 run across the next 3 minutes of play. Fairmont led 60-48 with 15 minutes remaining. At this point, the Falcons continued to build on their lead and pulled away even further. Fairmont State would hold a steady 15–20-point lead for the remainder of play and would end up defeating Salem by a final score of 93-76.
On the stats sheet,
Tyree Davis led all Tigers with 19 points on 60 percent shooting from the field. Salem had two more players in double digits with
Kevin Constant and
Isaac James both scoring 12.
After a road loss, the Tigers will return home to prepare for their next contest. That contest will happen on Wednesday night as the Salem Tigers will go up against the Wheeling Cardinals at 7:30 pm.
