Tigers Bested by Pioneers at Home

SALEM, West Virginia- Following a Wednesday home victory over the Wheeling Cardinals, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team was back in action. The Tigers looked to start a win streak, this time in a Saturday afternoon match against the Point Park Pioneers. However, Point Park would pull away in the second half and cruise to a 86-64 victory over Salem.

In the first half, Point Park would jump out to a quick 12-4 run in the opening minutes. The Tigers would cut an early deficit after a dunk by Tyree Davis and a jumper by Jalen Barnes around the 14-minute mark. Both teams would trade buckets over the midway point of the first half. Point Park held a 26-20 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first. The Pioneers would extend their lead to 41-28 with just under 3 minutes left. Fortunately, the Tigers would close the half strong with Daquan Coleman knocking down 2 triples to cut the lead down. At the half, Point Park only held a 41-38 lead over Salem.

In the second half, Point Park started out hot again going on a 14-0 run to open. At this point, Salem was now put in a big hole facing a 17-point deficit with under 15 minutes left. The pioneers would build on this lead even further getting up 80-49 with just 6 minutes remaining. Point Park would control the entire second half and go onto beat Salem 86-64.

On the stats sheet, Daquan Coleman led the way for the Tigers with 16 points. Jalen Barnes added 13 and Tyree Davis with 11 to round out the Tigers in double digits. 

After the defeat, the Tigers will try to look past this one and prepare for their next match up on Wednesday. Salem will finish out the current home stand against West Virginia Wesleyan on January 29th at 7:30 pm.
