ELKINS, W.Va. — The Salem University men's soccer team turned in another competitive performance but couldn't overcome a strong Davis & Elkins attack, dropping a 4–0 decision on Saturday afternoon.
The Senators struck late in the first half, breaking through in the 43rd minute on a goal from Chinedu Ikem to take a 1–0 lead into the break. Davis & Elkins added to their advantage in the second period, netting three more goals, including a second from Ikem in the 61st minute.
Salem generated six total shots on the day, including three on goal. Josue Villegas, Caleb Christner, and Nicholas Vieyra each put efforts on target for the Tigers, while Daniel Towell and Copper West added pressure in the attacking third.
Goalkeeper Jason Barrientos turned away four first-half shots before Noah Plummer entered in relief for the final 47 minutes. The Tigers also held a narrow edge in possession (52%) and earned three corner kicks.
Despite the final scoreline, Salem continued to show growth in its overall play and maintained strong stretches of possession throughout the match.
The Tigers (1-6-5) continue their 2025 season next week with another road test. This time, it will be against the Frostburg State Bobcats on Wednesday, October 15th.
