ATHENS, West Virginia - Rested and recuperated after a rare weekend off, the Salem men's soccer team headed down south today to face off with the Concord Mountain Lions. It was a true battle throughout, and the Tigers ended up with a 1-1 draw for their efforts.
In the first half, things were tough for the Tigers early as Concord peppered the Salem defense with 8 first half shots/ However, the Tigers' backline held firm, and Salem found 3 shots of their own on the counterattack. However, neither side truly found their offensive form, and the game went into the break at a 0-0 deadlock.
After the intermission, the game seemed to settle into the scoreless gridlock initially, but Salem punched through with an unassisted goal from Caleb Christner in the 67th minute. However, the Mountain Lions responded with a goal of their own in the 73rd minute, and it became clear this contest was destined for a draw. The final whistle sounded and the Tigers went away with the 1-1 draw.
Statistically, the highlight of the game was the goal from Caleb Christner, and he added 2 more shots for the Tigers as well. Jason Barrientos stopped a total of 6 shots in goal for the Tigers.
Next up, the Tigers are still on the road as they are slated to take on the West Liberty Hilltoppers next time out. That contest will take place on Sunday, October 26th at 1 PM.
