PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - With the crossover season in full swing, the Salem women's volleyball team finished up regular season play this evening with a tightly contested match at Point Park. While the Tigers played well, they ultimately fell in the regular season finale 3-1.
To open up the contest, the Tigers knew this contest would be extremely close throughout. Both teams traded small runs initially, but Salem pulled away to take set 1 25-23 behind some strong play from Valentina Poti and Marika Righi.
However, Salem had a tough time finding their scoring punch the rest of the way. The Pioneers snagged set 2, and Salem then fell in set 3 behind a strong start to that frame.
In the 4th set, Salem kept things close with some key kills from Noemi Combi and Alexandra Vigneron. However, the Pioneers would simply not be denied on their home court, so they took the set, and therefore the game 3-1.
Statistically, Valentina Poti led the way with 13 kills. Katie Kennedy added 25 assists, and Ana Julia Avila Vian was strong defensively with 12 digs.
While this contest concludes the regular season for the Tigers, Salem is still awaiting the final seeding and the host site for the Peach Belt Conference tournament, which will take place on November 21st.
