Coraopolis, PA — November 15, 2025 — Salem University's men's soccer team delivered a dominant performance, defeating Berkeley-NJ 6-1 at the AHN Montour Junction. The match, played behind closed doors, showcased Salem's offensive firepower and solid defense as they improved their season record to 6-8-6.
Early Goals Set the Tone
The game kicked off with both teams eager to establish dominance, but it was Salem who struck first. In the 4th minute, Ahmad Hijaz converted a penalty kick, giving Salem an early lead. Berkeley-NJ responded with a goal from Samuel Gomez in the 15th minute, leveling the score at 1-1 and setting the stage for an exciting contest.
Salem Turns Up the Offense
After halftime, Salem launched a relentless offensive assault. Caleb Christner scored two quick goals in the 46th and 56th minutes, putting Salem ahead 3-1. Valentin Fritz extended the lead with a goal at 59 minutes, and Copper West sealed the victory with another penalty kick in the 62nd minute.
Adding further insurance, M. Aguilar Renovales scored Salem's sixth goal in the 77th minute, capping off a comprehensive team effort.
Defensive and Goalkeeping Highlights
Salem's goalkeeper, Jason Barrientos, was tested throughout the match but managed to make 7 saves, including key stops in the first half. Berkeley-NJ's goalkeeper Victor Batista faced 26 shots, conceding 6 goals while making 8 saves.
