PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Salem University men's soccer team closed out its 2025 campaign on Wednesday evening, falling 3–1 to Point Park at Highmark Stadium.
After trailing 3–0 at halftime, the Tigers (4-8-6) regrouped in the second half and found their rhythm, outshooting the Pioneers 9–8 after the break and cutting into the deficit behind a goal from Ahmad Hijaz in the 50th minute. The junior defender's strike was his second goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Selleck Burggraf turned in another solid outing in net, recording eight saves while facing 20 total shots. Tommy Sowinski led Salem with three shots, including two on target, while Hijaz added two more and Josue Villegas, Max Cavanagh, and CJ Branch each registered a shot on goal.
Point Park (8-8-2) scored all three of its goals in the first half, capitalizing on chances in the 18th, 33rd, and 34th minutes. Salem tightened defensively in the second half, holding the hosts scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
While this is not how the Tigers wanted to end the regular season, they have an opportunity to reverse their fortunes next week in postseason play. The Tigers were selected as th 5th seed in the USCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, and will face off with Bryant and Stratton Syracuse on Thursday, November 13th at 3:30 PM.
