Offensive Woes Doom Tigers Against Wheeling

SALEM, W.Va. — Salem University struggled to find offensive rhythm on Saturday afternoon as Wheeling University used a fast start and consistent scoring to hand the Tigers a 67–27 loss inside T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.

Wheeling opened the game on a 26–9 first-quarter run and carried that momentum through halftime, leading 44–20 at the break. The Cardinals shot 61% in the opening period and knocked down three early three-pointers to create separation.

Salem fought to generate offense throughout the afternoon but finished 10-of-41 from the field. The Tigers were unable to convert from long range, going 0-of-9 from beyond the arc despite creating several open looks.

Tigers' Highlights

  • Nakayla Green led Salem with 8 points and added 4 rebounds, providing early offense with three first-quarter baskets.

  • Meilin Guo finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal in 19 minutes of play.

  • Fatima Bakayoko scored 4 points in the fourth quarter, giving the Tigers a late spark off the bench.

  • Taja Brown contributed 4 rebounds and a basket late in the second quarter.

Salem continued to battle defensively, forcing 12 Wheeling turnovers and competing on the boards with a nearly even 37–35 rebounding margin. However, second-chance scoring and transition points helped Wheeling maintain control throughout the game.

The Tigers will be looking to regroup next time out when the travel to Davis and Elkins on December 10th at 5:30 PM.
