SALEM, West Virginia- As the cold conditions continued, the Salem women's basketball team returned home for their final home contest of the season. The Tigers would look to pull off a Senior Day upset against the Fairmont State Falcons. Unfortunately, the Falcons got out in front early and didn't look back. Fairmont State defeated Salem by a final of 88-47.
In the first period, the Tigers were able to keep things close early as
Kasaya Krause hit a three at the 7-minute mark. Fairmont held a 7-5 lead at that point. Unfortunately, the Falcons finished the quarter on a 21-5 run. That run already gave the Falcons a commanding 28-10 lead after the first.
In the second quarter, Fairmont State picked up right where they left off and continued extending their lead. Salem desperately needed a huge run if they wanted any chance to get back in this one. However, after a dominant quarter from the Falcons they held a 48-16 lead as intermission arrived.
During the second half, the Tigers were able to get some early buckets to cut the deficit. Fairmont State still held a 67-31-point lead as the third period ended. As the final period arrived, the Falcon's commanding lead was way too much to overcome. Fairmont State secured the 88-47 victory over Salem.
On the stats sheet, Liliana Krause led all Tigers with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Kasaya Krause added 11 points.
Carmen Vasquez had 7 points and was able to grab 10 rebounds.
After the loss, the Tigers will look to regroup and prepare for their next contest. Which will come on February 26
th at West Liberty University
