PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania- As the cold weather conditions continued across the mountain state, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team looked to close out the regular season. The Tigers traveled north to Pittsburgh for a contest against the Point Park Pioneers. Salem looked to close out the season with a huge road victory and were able to do just that defeating Point Park by a score of 77-68.
In the first half, the Tigers got out to a 13-9 lead as
Tyree Davis scored 7 of those points. Both defenses came out aggressive early on. Point Park would tie things up at 21 with just under 9 minutes left in the half. After a few baskets from
Isaac James and
Jack Garrison IV, the Tigers would retake the lead 29-23 with 5 minutes in the half. However, it would be the pioneers who went into the half with the lead. At intermission, Point Park led Salem 40-35.Â
In the second half, Point Park was able to maintain their lead in the opening minutes. Point Park even extended their lead 51-43 with 14:43 left in the game.
Isaac James would knock down back-to-back baskets around the 10-minute mark to give the Tigers their first lead in the second half. Salem led 59-57 with 9:22 remaining in game time. After a
Tyree Davis dunk and a
Daquan Coleman triple the Tigers extended their lead 66-59 with 6:55 left. As time was winding down, the opportunities were running low for Point Park to get the lead back. Fortunately, the Tigers were able to control the final moments of the game and come up big on the defensive end especially. Salem ended up defeating Point Park 77-68.
On the stats sheet,
Jalen Barnes led all Tigers once again with 19 points.
Daquan Coleman was right behind with 18 points of his own.
Jack Garrison IV had 15 and
Isaac James with 14.
Tyree Davis chipped in 11 points and rounding out the Tigers in double figures.Â
After the huge road victory, the Salem Tigers men's basketball season will officially come to an end. The Tigers will look to build on this one as they head into the offseason and keep this momentum for the future.Â
