FROSTBURG, Maryland - With the difficult weather threatening this weekend, the Salem softball team braved the conditions and made their way up to Frostburg State Saturday for a twinbill with the Bobcats. Salem played well enough to take Game 1, but were unable to pull out the sweep in Game 2. Each contest played out as follows:
Salem 4, Frostburg State 3
In Game 1, neither team really got the bats going in the first few innings. The scoring opened up in the 3rd when Jazmyn Moetului drove in an RBI off of a double to put the Tigers on the board. Then, Karmen Hogan added a home run in the next inning to bring the Tigers another run. Salem added 2 more in the top of the 6th with a Bella Ortiz single that scored Kyleigh Cook and Karmen Hogan. Frostburg State surged back with 3 runs in the 6th, but Kendall Lemley shut the door for Salem in the 7th to seal the 4-3 win. Lemley earned the win for her performance in the circle, and struckout 2 batters in 7 innings of work.
Frostburg State 10, Salem 1
For Game 2, it was a much tougher time for Salem offensively. Salem fell behind early, but started to build a rally behind a home run from Brooke Wise in the 2nd to make it 3-1. However, that is where the offense ran dry for Salem, and the Tigers ultimately fell 10-1. In the pitcher's circle, starter Brooke Wise, Francheca Alvaro, and Destiny Coble combined to punch out 4 Bobcats in the contest.Â
Salem will be back in action this weekend when they head up to Fairmont State on Sunday, March 23rd for a 1 PM doubleheader with the rival Falcons.
