NUTTER FORT, West Virginia- Coming off the Friday split against Glenville State, the Salem Tigers baseball team was back in action on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers looked to sweep the day as they played host to the Concord Mountain Lions. However, the Tigers were able to win game 1 but Concord secured the game 2 victory.
Salem 4, Concord 0
In game 1, it would be
Conor Thiele with the start on the mound for Salem. In the bottom of the 2
nd,
Aaron Forbes would get the first run of the game for Salem after an error by Concord. A few plays later,
Aidan McMurdo would hit a 2 run rbi single to center field.
Ryder Costa and
Luis Angarita would score on the play. Thiele was off to a good start on the mound as the Mountain Lions were still at 0 runs. The Tigers held the Mountain Lions in check for majority of the game.
Aidan McMurdo would get his 3
rd rbi of the game in the bottom of the 6
th when he singled to left field.
Joe Wintermute scored the run. Concord was unable to get much hitting going and the Tigers were able secure the game 1 victory. Salem defeated Concord 4-0.
Conor Thiele moved to 2-0 on the season.
Concord 6, Salem 0
In game 2,
Eric Kovach started for the Tigers at pitcher. Concord was able to strike first to get on the board in the top of the 2
nd after a hit by pitch occurred with the bases loaded.
Aaron Forbes hit a double off the right field wall in the bottom of the 2
nd. However, the Tigers were unable to take advantage of that. Concord held a 1-0 lead as we headed into the 5
th. The Mountain Lions would hit 3 run homer in the top of the 5
th. Concord now held a 4-0 lead. Unfortunately, Salem was unable to get much going with the hitting this game. Concord would close out the game in the top of the 7
th with their second homer of the day. The Mountain Lions were able to take the game 2 victory by a score of 6-0.
Following today's doubleheader, the Tigers will have 6 days off prior to their next contest. The Tigers will start a long road stretch this Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State University for a doubleheader.
