Tigers Drop Home Game Against Walsh University

NUTTER FORT, West Virginia- As the weather is starting to warm up in the mountain state, the Salem Tigers baseball team returned to action. This time the Tigers had a sunny Tuesday afternoon contest against Walsh University. The Tigers looked to take advantage of the beautiful weather and secure a home victory. However, the Walsh Cavaliers were able to prevail and defeat the Tigers by an 11-8 final score.

To start the game, the Tigers were able to strike first. When Jacob Hurley scored a run off a Joe Wintermute triple. However, the Cavaliers would punch back with 2 runs of their own after an RBI Double in top of the 3rd inning. The following inning, Walsh was able to get another RBI Double that would score 2 more runs. At this point, Walsh held a 4-1 lead over Salem. In the bottom of the 4th, the Tigers had the bases loaded when Walsh would make the mistake of having two balks in a row. That resulted in 2 runs for the Tigers and Walsh only held a 4-3 lead.

Walsh was able to answer back with 2 runs of their own and get back to a 3 run lead. As we headed into the 7th inning, Walsh led Salem 6-3. Fortunately, for the Tigers after Luis Angarita and Jacob Hurley both singled which resulted in 3 more runs for the Tigers. Now headed into the 8th. Walsh wasted no time regaining the lead after a solo home run and an RBI Single led to 2 more runs. Heading into the final inning, Walsh held the 8-6 lead. The Cavaliers were able to build on their lead and score some insurance runs. As we went to the bottom of the 9th, the Tigers were facing a 5 run deficit. Luis Angarita scored off an error by the Cavaliers. Hunter Rose hit a massive homerun, but unfortunately for the Tigers it was too late for the comeback. Walsh secured the 11-8 victory over Salem. 

On the score sheet, the Tigers had 10 different pitchers throw on the day with Sam Schmitt getting the start. Hunter Rose had 4 hits including the 1 homer. Jacob Hurley went 3/3 for hitting on the day. Luis Angarita secured 2 stolen bases and Joe Wintermute had 1 stolen base.

Following the tough loss, the Tigers will look to regroup and try to move past this one. The Tigers next match up will be on Saturday March 8th when the Tigers begin a four game home series against Lock Haven.
