Tigers Snag Pair of Victories over Ohio Christian

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - With rainy conditions threatening north central West Virginia most of this week, the Salem softball team was fortunate to hit the field today for a doubleheader at home against the Ohio Christian Trailblazers. The Tigers played well throughout to secure a pair of victories on their home turf. Each contest played out as follows:

Salem 12, Ohio Christian 5

In the first contest of the day, Salem fell behind early, but rallied to add a pair of 1st inning runs to take the lead at 2-1. Salem added another run in the 2nd, before the Trailblazers knotted things back up at 3-3 in the top of the 3rd. Then, the Tigers added a whopping 8 run inning in the bottom of the third. Ohio Christian added a pair in the 5th, but the Tigers sealed the victory with a lone run in the 6th to win 12-5. Offensively, the Tigers had a stellar day from the plate with 6 doubles in total from 6 different players (Bella Ortiz, Abigail Harki, Jazmyn Moetului, Kylie Zinn, Kendall Lemley, and Karmen Hogan). Bella Ortiz added a single and a triple as well to finish just a home run short of a cycle. From the pitcher's circle, Kendall Lemley started and earned the win for Salem, and Franchesca Alvaro came on relief to seal the victory in the final 2 innings. The pair combined for 6 strikeouts in the contest.

Salem 3, Ohio Christian 2

For Game 2, the Tigers fell behind initially with 2-0, but knotted up the game with Brooke Wise double in the 3rd and a Kyleigh Cook RBI single in the 4th. That deadlock went into the 7th where the Tigers earned the win in dramatic fashion. Kyleigh Cook laid down a bunt that advanced Kaydee Anderson to 3rd. Brooke Wise then came in clutch with her second double of the game to secure the walkoff win for the Tigers. From the pitcher's circle, Franchesca Alvaro earned the win for Salem on 7 innings of work and a staggering 12 strikeouts in the contest.

The Tigers will not have long to enjoy these wins however. They are set to take on the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Wednesday, April 2nd at 4 PM for their next round of competition.
