DUBOIS, Pennsylvania- Coming off the second-round victory yesterday, the Salem Tigers baseball team moved on the semifinals of the USCAA Championship. On Wednesday, the Tigers went up against the Penn State Dubois Nittany Lions. Salem was able to take complete control early on and prevail to a 13-6 victory.
Conor Thiele was the starter on the mound for the Tigers. In the top of the 1
st,
Luis Angarita knocked in the first 2 runs of the day for Salem. The Nittany Lions answered back in the bottom 1
st with 2 runs of their own.
Reese Rinna was able to escape the tie in the top of the 4
th with a massive 3 run homer in right-center field. However, Dubois would answer back again in the 4
th knotting the game back up after a rbi triple and single. As we headed into the 5
th, the game was tied up once again at 5.
In the top of the 6
th,
Reese Rinna continued his huge day with another 3 run homer.
Jacob Hurley kept that momentum rolling with a 2-run home run to left field. The Tigers had opened the game up and now had a commanding 10-5 lead as we headed into the final inning. In the last inning,
Aaron Forbes chipped an insurance run with a rbi single.
Luis Angarita was able to get the Tigers on the board again with a rbi doubled. Angarita would go onto score the last run of the day for Salem off an error by the Nittany Lions. The Nittany Lions did get on the board in the bottom of the 7
th, but it wouldn't be enough as Salem defeated Penn State Dubois 13-6 to advance to the USCAA Championship Game.
Salem will now look to keep the momentum rolling into tomorrow evenings USCAA Championship Game. The Tigers opponent is to be determined, but the game will happen tomorrow at 5:30 PM in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
