BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - Fresh off a dramatic draw against a historically strong Lake Erie program, the Salem men's soccer team hit the field yet again on Sunday afternoon. This time around they faced off with the Bobcats of Frostburg State, and again battled to a 1-1 draw.
In the first half, the Tigers came out of the locker room slow, and the Bobcats quickly took advantage. Frostburg State dominated control of the ball early, and tallied a total of 7 shots in the first half to just 1 for Salem. Those scoring chances yielded a 24th minute goal for the Bobcats, and Salem needed to respond quickly. However, the Tigers were unable to find their equalizer in the first half, and went into the break with a 1-0 deficit.Â
After the break, the Tigers needed to find their offensive footing, and they finally did just that when Josue Villegas punched in a shot off of a free kick that found the back of the net to knot the game up at 1-1. From there, the Tigers went on the attack, and peppered the Frostburg State with shots the rest of the half. Tommy Sowinski and Aldair Cardenas Villamizar tallied the majority of those scoring chances down the stretch, but it just was not in the cards for the Tigers to find that go-ahead goal. Therefore, the contest ended in a tightly contested 1-1 draw.Â
Statistically, the Josue Villegas goal was the only scorer for the Tigers. Tommy Sowinski and Aldair Cardenas yield 4 shots each for the Tigers as well. Defensively, Jason Barrientos played well in his return to the lineup for the Tigers as he tallied up 7 saves in the contest.Â
Next, the Tigers continue their nearly month long home swing as they host Wheeling on Wednesday, September 17th at 2:30 PM at The Bridge Sports Complex.
