BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - In their final game of this current home swing, the Salem women's soccer team hosted the Wheeling Cardinals at The Bridge Sports Complex. The Tigers dodged showers early on, and played a close game with the Cardinals. However, they ended up coming up short 3-1.
To open the contest, the rain showers played an early role and made things difficult for both squads to really get things going. However, the rain curtailed off late in the half, and the Cardinals punched in a goal to go into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.
Out of the intermission, the Tigers conceded another pair of goals, but finally found their scoring chance with just 2 minutes left on the clock. A Cardinal miscue put Audriana Medina at the penalty spot, and she converted the penalty kick to put the Tigers on the board. While there was not enough time to complete the Tiger comeback, the late goal gave the Tigers considerable energy, and should carry into the rest of the season.
With the lone goal, Audriana Medina led the Tigers offensively as her and Niah Hidalgo tallied the only shots for the Tigers. Janiya Brooks-Crews recorded 12 saves for the Tigers in goal as well.
Since this contest ended the Salem homestand, the Tigers hit the road for their next contest when they face off with the West Liberty Hilltoppers on September 28th at 1 PM.
