Athens, W.Va. — Salem University women's basketball continued its road slate on Saturday afternoon, falling to Mountain East Conference member Concord University, 81–59, at the Carter Center.
The Tigers were led offensively by Batoul Khaleefah, who turned in a strong performance with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, while also pulling down five rebounds. Nakayla Green added 15 points, shooting 5-for-12 from the field and knocking down a three-pointer, while playing a team-high 36 minutes.
Salem battled early but faced a quick start from Concord, which opened the game on a 24–13 first-quarter run and extended its advantage to 47–29 by halftime. Concord capitalized on second-chance opportunities and points in the paint, finishing the contest with a 37–32 rebounding edge.
Despite the deficit, Salem showed resilience throughout the second half. The Tigers outscored Concord 22–12 in the fourth quarter, shooting 58.8 percent from the field in the final period. Fatima Bakayoko contributed nine points and six rebounds, while Meilin Guo provided a spark off the bench with eight rebounds and four points.
Salem finished the game shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. Concord was paced by Abbie Smith, who scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Olivia Ziolkowski added 15 points and four steals.
The Tigers will look to build on their late-game momentum as they prepare for their next contest. That game will take place on January 7th at 5:30 PM, and it will be a home contest with the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.
