Salem, W.Va. — The Salem University men's basketball team delivered a strong offensive performance Wednesday night, pulling away in the second half for a 95–75 victory over West Virginia State University at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
Salem shot an efficient 55.6 percent from the field and connected on 40.0 percent of its three-point attempts, building a 45–34 halftime lead before outscoring the Yellow Jackets 50–41 over the final 20 minutes.
Zahki Fallen led all scorers with a game-high 26 points, knocking down four three-pointers while adding five assists and two steals. Xavier Price followed with 17 points, four assists, and five rebounds, while Eman Lawal continued his strong play in the paint with 16 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Mack Toomer provided a major boost off the bench, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
The Tigers controlled the interior throughout the contest, outscoring West Virginia State 52–30 in the paint and holding a 50–46 rebounding advantage. Salem also capitalized on transition opportunities, scoring 11 fast-break points and forcing 15 turnovers.
West Virginia State was led by Jaylen Subject, who scored 19 points, and Trey Harris, who added 18 points. Despite 27 bench points from the Yellow Jackets, Salem's balanced scoring and efficiency proved too much to overcome.
The win improves Salem to 6–6 on the season as the Tigers continue their home schedule.
