FROSTBURG, Md. — Salem University men's soccer fell on the road Sunday evening, dropping a 3-1 decision to Frostburg State University in Mountain East Conference tournament action at Bobcat Stadium.
Noah Kostanian Urvik provided the early spark for the Tigers, striking just over five minutes into the match. Off an assist from Tommy Sowinski, Kostanian Urvik buried his attempt at the 05:31 mark to give Salem a 1-0 advantage.
Salem held off a persistent Frostburg State attack through the remainder of the opening half, anchored by goalkeeper Jason Barrientos. Barrientos notched five of his seven total saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the Tigers ahead heading into the halftime break.
The Bobcats ramped up the pressure in the second half, eventually finding the equalizer in the 68th minute when Frank Stare finished a setup from Christ Fopossi. Frostburg State capitalized on the momentum shortly after, taking a 2-1 lead in the 71st minute on a goal by Abdallah Soulemana, once again assisted by Fopossi.
Stare added an insurance goal for the Bobcats in the 79th minute to extend the margin to 3-1. Salem fought back late, including a penalty kick opportunity from Sowinski and a lower-corner shot from Copper West, but Frostburg State netminder Josiah Emerson turned both away to preserve the result.
Barrientos finished with seven saves in goal for Salem, while West led the Tigers with two shots on the evening.
