The women's basketball team from Salem University dropped a home contest to Frostburg State University on Tuesday evening, falling 81-54 inside T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
Frostburg State (12-13) used a strong opening quarter to take control early, outscoring Salem 18-7 in the first 10 minutes. The Tigers responded with their best stretch in the second quarter, putting up 23 points and shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the period, but still trailed 43-30 at halftime.
Nakayla Green led Salem offensively with 11 points, knocking down 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and adding two free throws. Kamarice Jackson followed with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Akhia Miller added eight points and a team-high six rebounds. Selena Frost chipped in seven points for the Tigers.
Despite shooting 41.7 percent from three-point range as a team, Salem finished the game at 38.5 percent overall from the floor (20-of-52). Frostburg State shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) and controlled the glass, outrebounding the Tigers 45-25. The Bobcats also held advantages in points in the paint (32-18) and points off turnovers (28-6).
Salem moves to 3-21 on the season and will look to bounce back in its next outing as the Tigers continue late-season play.
