In a season-opening doubleheader at The Bridge in Bridgeport, WV, the Salem University Tigers split their matchups against Malone University. After a tough defensive battle in the opener, the Tigers rallied in the second game to secure their first victory of 2026.
Game 1: Malone 3, Salem 0
The Tigers struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the first contest, held to just two hits. Kylie Zinn provided a bright spot early, barreling a triple in the bottom of the first inning. In the second, Brooke Wise added a double to put a runner in scoring position, but the Tigers were unable to bring her home.
On the mound, Franchesca Alvaro pitched a complete seven-inning game. She allowed five hits and three runs while striking out two batters.Â
Game 2: Salem 3, Malone 2
The Tigers bounced back in the nightcap, fueled by a productive three-run first inning. After falling behind early, the Salem offense came alive. Jacobi Gledhill sparked the comeback with an RBI single that scored Kendall Lemley. Moments later, Ali Shrieve followed up with another RBI single to bring home Brooke Wise, evening the score.
Kendall Lemley took control in the circle, earning the win with a seven-inning performance. She surrendered only two unearned runs and scattered six hits, keeping the Malone bats quiet through the final six frames.
