Salem Gets Past California (PA) on Day 2 of Regional Crossover

NUTTER FORT, W.Va. — On a Saturday afternoon at home, the Salem Tigers secured a convincing 4-1 victory over California (PA), powered by an elite performance on the mound and a double-digit hit parade.

Thiele Goes the Distance

The story of the game was starter Conor Thiele, who delivered a masterful complete-game performance. Thiele surrendered only one run over 9.0 innings of work. Most impressively, he didn't issue a single walk while throwing 62 of his 98 pitches for strikes. Despite hitting two batters, he remained in total control, striking out three and navigating through the California (PA) lineup with efficiency.

Early Offensive Spark

The Tigers' offense wasted no time, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone. The lineup remained aggressive throughout the day, racking up 11 total hits.

  • Aaron Forbes led the run production, going 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

  • Reese Rinna was a force at the plate, finishing a perfect 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

  • Landon McAlpine and Chase Clemons provided a spark at the top of the order, each recording two hits and scoring a run.

  • Jimmy LaForce contributed a hit and a run scored to the winning effort.

Speed and Strategy

Beyond the power hitting, Salem utilized small ball and speed to keep the pressure on. Max Atkinson executed a successful sacrifice bunt, while Joe Wintermute was a menace on the basepaths, swiping two bases.

The Tigers' defense and pitching combined to strand six California (PA) runners, ensuring that the early lead was never in serious jeopardy. After adding two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, Salem closed the door to move to 7-4 on the season.
