Salem Tigers Split Doubleheader in Virginia
SALEM, VA – The Salem Tigers softball team split a pair of contests at the Moyer Sports Complex on Saturday , opening the day with a dominant shutout victory over Mansfield before falling in a late-inning battle to Bowie State.
Game 1: Salem 6, Mansfield 0
The Tigers opened the afternoon with a commanding 6-0 win over Mansfield , fueled by a lights-out performance from pitcher Franchesca Alvaro. Alvaro earned her second win of the season, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out seven and navigating out of several jams to leave 10 Mansfield runners stranded.
Salem's offense ignited immediately in the top of the 1st inning. After Bella Ortiz singled and stole second, Kylie Zinn cleared the bases with a two-run triple to right field. Ali Shrieve followed with an RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead before an out was recorded.
The Tigers added insurance in the 3rd inning when Ali Jacobs drove in Zinn with a single to center. Salem put the game out of reach in the 7th as Jacobi Gledhill delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI double to right-center, scoring Shrieve and Kendall Lemley.

Game 2: Bowie State 5, Salem 1
In the second game of the day, Salem engaged in a tight pitcher's duel with Bowie State that remained tied until the final frames.
The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Ali Jacobs singled and was replaced on the paths by Destiny Coble, who eventually scored following an RBI single by Alyssa Schultz and an outfield error. Salem pitcher Kendall Lemley held the lead until the 5th inning when Bowie State's Coreena Dunham tied the game with an RBI triple.
The Bulldogs broke the deadlock in the 6th and added three crucial insurance runs in the top of the 7th. Despite a valiant effort, the Tigers' bats were silenced by Bowie State's Aaliyah Amos, who allowed only four hits in a complete-game win.
