Salem University women's water polo continued its strong conference run with a commanding 16-5 victory over Fresno Pacific on Thursday afternoon at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California.
The Tigers (14-5, 4-0 WWPA) controlled the match from the opening sprint, exploding for five first-period goals and never looking back. Salem's early offensive surge set the tone, with five different players finding the back of the cage in the first quarter.
Salem added to its lead in the second period, taking a 7-1 advantage into halftime. The Tigers then put the game out of reach in the third, scoring four more times behind a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play.
Leading the way for Salem was Matipa Karimazondo, who scored a team-high four goals and added an assist. Courtney Repinz contributed three goals, while Iris Oudshoorn also tallied a hat trick along with one assist. Lucy Bramwell added two goals, and Keri Brooks and Milica Zelic each recorded three-point performances with a goal and two assists apiece.
In total, Salem showcased its depth with eight different goal scorers and six assists on 16 goals.
Defensively, the Tigers limited Fresno Pacific to just two goals through the first three periods. Goalkeeper Kristen Hemmila anchored the effort with 10 saves, while the Salem defense forced 11 steals and held Fresno Pacific scoreless in the opening quarter.
Fresno Pacific mounted a small push in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals, but Salem answered with five of its own to seal the 11-goal victory.
With the win, Salem remains undefeated in WWPA play and continues to build momentum as conference competition progresses.
