Salem split its doubleheader on Friday in Bridgeport, falling in the opener before bouncing back with a strong performance in Game 2.
Game 1 – Salem 0, Davis & Elkins 10
Salem struggled to generate offense in the first game, managing just three hits in the contest. Brooke Wise, Jacobi Gledhill, and Alyssa Schultz each recorded a hit to account for the Tigers' offensive output.
Schultz's single highlighted one of Salem's best scoring opportunities, as the Tigers put runners on base in multiple innings but were unable to capitalize.
In the circle, Franchesca Alvaro got the start, with Wise providing relief. Despite their efforts, Salem was unable to slow down Davis & Elkins' early offensive surge, as the Senators built a lead in the middle innings.
Game 2 – Salem 3, Davis & Elkins 1
Salem responded in a big way in the second game, using a balanced offensive attack and a dominant pitching performance to secure the win.
The Tigers got on the board early when Ali Jacobs drove in a run with a double in the first inning, bringing home Brooke Wise to tie the game.
Salem took the lead in the third inning as Kendall Lemley delivered an RBI single, helping her own cause and putting the Tigers in front for good.
They added an insurance run in the fourth inning when Ali Shrieve drove in Alyssa Schultz, extending the lead to 3-1.
Lemley was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two hits and one run, while striking out four to earn the win.
Offensively, Salem totaled 11 hits, with Wise and Schultz each recording two hits. Jacobs and Shrieve also contributed key hits in run-scoring situations to pace the Tigers' attack.
