Salem Opens Postseason Play with Run-Rule Victory

DUBOIS, Pa. — Salem University softball closed out its 2026 season in dominant fashion on Sunday afternoon, defeating Penn State Mont Alto 8-0 in five innings.

The Tigers collected 11 hits in the run-rule victory while Kendall Lemley tossed a complete-game shutout in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out five.

Salem wasted little time getting on the board in the opening inning. Brooke Wise singled to begin the game and later scored on an RBI groundout from Kylie Zinn to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

After three scoreless innings from Lemley, the Salem offense erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Bella Ortiz started the rally with a single before Ali Shrieve followed with a base hit. Gina Alvaro drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single, and Lemley helped her own cause with a two-run double down the left field line to extend the lead to 4-0.

Later in the inning, Jacobi Gledhill delivered the big blow with a two-run double to left field, pushing the advantage to 6-0.

Salem added two more runs in the fifth as Shrieve ripped a two-run double to right field, scoring Layla McClung and Ortiz to cap the scoring at 8-0.

Shrieve finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Gledhill added two hits and two RBIs. Ortiz also recorded a two-hit performance, and Lemley drove in two runs while earning the win in the circle.

Wise scored twice and collected a hit, while Salem's pitching staff held Penn State Mont Alto to just two hits and stranded both runners who reached scoring position.

The Tigers conclude the season with a 20-34 overall record.
