Salem University took three out of four games against Point Park this weekend, moving their season record to 32-17 after a dominant Sunday performance in Pittsburgh.
Game 1: Salem 6, Point Park 5
The series opened at Nutter Fort with a nail-biter that saw Salem emerge victorious. The Tigers initially fell behind 1-0 and later found themselves tied 4-4 before Cody Thomas provided the heroics with a solo home run in the fifth. Jimmy LaForce followed with an RBI single to provide necessary insurance. Tyson Shumaker also contributed a massive two-run home run in the third inning. Aiden Eddy earned the win in relief, and Richie Preston secured his sixth save of the season.
Game 2: Point Park 9, Salem 5
In the second game of the Friday doubleheader, Point Park's offense found its rhythm to split the day. Despite Salem taking a 3-1 lead in the second inning behind a two-RBI double from Max Atkinson, the Pioneers responded with an eight-run surge between the third and fourth innings. Aaron Forbes led the Tigers' effort with two hits and two RBIs, while Cody Thomas added a ground-rule double to drive in a run in the fifth.
Game 3: Salem 6, Point Park 0
The first game of Sunday's action in Pittsburgh featured a masterful performance from Otho Savage, who threw seven shutout innings while allowing only three hits. The game remained a scoreless stalemate until the eighth inning when the Tiger bats finally ignited for six runs. Cody Thomas broke the tie with an RBI double, followed by run-scoring hits from Chase Clemons and Max Atkinson. Reese Rinna capped the scoring with a bases-clearing three-run double. Richie Preston closed out the final frame to secure the shutout.
Game 4: Salem 14, Point Park 3
Salem's offense reached its peak in the series finale, exploding for 14 runs on 17 hits. The Tigers broke the game open early with a six-run second inning, highlighted by two-RBI singles from both Joe Wintermute and Aaron Forbes. Cody Thomas was a force, belting a two-run home run to left field in the fourth and adding a two-run double in the sixth. Brian Kendall was steady on the mound, striking out six over six innings to earn the victory.
