SALEM, W.Va. — The Salem University volleyball team battled throughout Tuesday evening but ultimately fell to Glenville State, 3-1, at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
The Tigers dropped the opening two sets, 25-14 and 25-20, before responding with a strong third-set performance. Salem claimed the third set, 25-21, to extend the match, but Glenville State closed out the contest with a 25-20 fourth-set victory.
Salem was led offensively by Alexandra Vigneron, who recorded a team-high 15 kills while adding a block. Brianna Beyerle followed with six kills, 17 digs and three service aces, while Lily Irvin contributed six kills, two assists and two blocks.
Hailey Haynes added four kills without committing an attack error, finishing with a .286 hitting percentage, while Noemi Combi posted four kills, one assist, one ace and one block.
At the service line, Amari Nunez directed Salem's offense with a match-high 28 assists and added a kill, an ace and 10 digs. Lorin Turkdogan contributed two aces, while Beyerle added three.
Defensively, Beyerle paced the Tigers with 17 digs. Nunez recorded 10 digs, while Ana Julia Avila Vian added four and Sofia Ghadesi Morales finished with five digs.
Salem's offense improved as the match progressed. After hitting .033 in the opening set and .147 in the second, the Tigers hit .222 in the third set during their comeback attempt. Salem finished the match with 39 kills and a .114 hitting percentage.
Glenville State opened the match by taking control early, but Salem responded in the third set. The Tigers battled to a 25-21 win to force a fourth set before the Pioneers secured the match with a 25-20 decision.
With the loss, Salem falls to 3-1 on the season.
Salem returns to action September 4 when the Tigers continue their 2026 season at the Thomas More Regional Showcase.
