BRIDGEPORT, WV- The Salem University men's water polo team battled through a busy weekend at the Salem Invitational, putting together strong offensive performances while finishing the weekend with a 2-2 record.

Fresno Pacific 18, Salem 17

The Tigers opened the weekend with a tightly contested matchup against Fresno Pacific, ultimately falling 18-17.

Salem finished with 38 shots and 17 goals, shooting .447 from the field. The Tigers also converted 7-of-14 power-play opportunities.

Sam Hurey led Salem with three goals and two assists, while Medun Arsovic added three goals and an assist. Nander Voros recorded two goals and four assists, while Patrik Petlyanski finished with two goals and three assists.

Marko Jovanovic added two goals and two assists, while Antonio Sablic scored twice. Kelvin Caesar, Timothy Fischer and Gage Buttice each added a goal.

Jelle van Rossum played all 32 minutes in goal and finished with nine saves.

Salem battled until the final whistle, but Fresno Pacific held on for the one-goal victory.

Salem 22, Mercyhurst 10

Salem bounced back in its next matchup with a 22-10 victory over Mercyhurst.

The Tigers got on the board early with a goal from Nander Voros in the opening minute. Voros continued to make an impact throughout the game, while Medun Arsovic and Antonio Sablic also helped Salem build an early lead.

Arsovic added two goals in the second quarter, both assisted by Sablic. Marko Jovanovic also found the back of the cage, with Voros providing the assist. Sablic and Voros added goals of their own as Salem continued to build its advantage.

The Tigers kept the offense going in the second half. Connor McAlister scored twice, while Gage Buttice and Voros also added goals. David Socks, Rade Milosevic, Gabriel Balmelle and Caleb Beach all found the back of the cage as Salem continued to pull away.

Van Rossum finished with 13 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Salem 17, W&J 10

The Tigers continued their strong play with a 17-10 victory over Washington & Jefferson.

Salem came out strong, scoring 10 goals in the first half. Gage Buttice and Nander Voros got the Tigers on the board before Antonio Sablic, Connor McAlister and Patrik Petlyanski added to the offensive effort.

Petlyanski found the back of the cage three times, while Buttice added his second goal of the game. Timothy Fischer closed out the first-half scoring for Salem.

Gabriel Balmelle opened the second-half scoring before Washington & Jefferson went on a six-goal run. The Tigers responded with goals from Kelvin Caesar, Nicholas Duncan and Balmelle to regain control.

Nicholas Duncan scored twice in the second half, while Balmelle added another goal. Veer Kassan also recorded an assist.

Mateja Cerovic finished with 17 saves in goal for Salem.

George Washington 16, Salem 10

The Tigers wrapped up the weekend against George Washington, falling 16-10.

Salem came out strong in the opening quarter, scoring four goals. Antonio Sablic opened the scoring before finding the back of the net again later in the quarter. Patrik Petlyanski and Nander Voros each converted penalty shots as Salem took a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

Petlyanski added another goal to start the second quarter on a five-meter attempt. George Washington responded with five goals in the quarter, while Salem added two more to take a 7-6 deficit into halftime.

The Tigers continued to battle in the second half, scoring three goals in the third quarter. Sablic, Petlyanski, Voros and Sam Hurey each finished with two goals, while Rade Milosevic and Gabriel Balmelle also found the back of the cage.

George Washington scored five goals in the fourth quarter to secure the 16-10 victory.

Despite the loss in the final game, Salem finished the weekend 2-2 and put together several strong offensive performances throughout the invitational.
