FROSTBURG, Md. — Salem University fought back from 2 goal deficit on Wednesday evening, but a late surge by Frostburg State University handed the Tigers a 4-2 loss at Bobcat Stadium. Frank Stare led the Bobcats with a hat trick, helping Frostburg State pull away in the final 20 minutes.
Frostburg State took control early as Stare netted back-to-back goals in the 19th and 25th minutes to put Salem behind 2-0. The Tigers responded before the break when defender Dylan Vaughn finished an assist from Copper West in the 40th minute to trim the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
Salem continued to build momentum in the second half and earned an equalizer in the 70th minute. After a foul in the box, Jordan Johnson stepped up and buried a penalty kick to knot the score at 2-2.
However, the Bobcats answered quickly. Stare completed his hat trick in the 75th minute to push Frostburg State back ahead 3-2. As Salem pressed forward for another late equalizer, Frostburg State secured the victory in the 90th minute when David Williams capitalized on an assist from Stare to set the final score at 4-2.
Both teams recorded 17 total shots in an end-to-end battle, with Salem creating key opportunities through Arokya Shrestha, who registered a team-high five shots. Josue Villegas and Carlos Gonzalez each added two shots, while goalkeeper Gregory Lynch made five saves for the Tigers.
