Annapolis, Maryland- The Salem men's water polo team traveled to Annapolis, Maryland, to open the 2026 season at the U.S. Naval Academy Open. The Tigers faced a challenging weekend, they opened the tournament against Princeton University. Salem went 0-4 on the weekend. They will be back in action next weekend at home.
Salem vs. Princeton 19-4
The Salem men's water polo team opened the 2026 season this weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy Open, facing Princeton University in their season opener.
The Tigers faced an early challenge, trailing 6-0 after the first quarter. Salem continued to battle throughout the game and showed determination against a strong Princeton squad, but ultimately fell 19-4.
Despite the tough start to the season, the Tigers gained valuable experience and will look to build on the weekend as the 2026 season continues.
Salem vs. Navy 23-11
The Salem men's water polo team continued tournament play at the U.S. Naval Academy Open, taking on host Navy.
The Tigers battled throughout the game but fell to the Midshipmen, 23-11. Navy took a 6-3 lead after the first quarter and extended its advantage to 11-3 at halftime. Salem continued to fight in the second half, but Navy held on for the win.
Antonio Sablic led the Tigers with six goals, while Timothy Fischer added three. Samson Hurey and Patrik Petlyanszki each scored one goal.
Salem vs. Iona 18-12
The Salem University Tigers continued to battle through a competitive weekend, falling to Iona University, 18-12, in a hard-fought contest.
Salem kept pace with Iona throughout the game, with the Tigers receiving goals from Patrik Petlyanszki, Nandor Voros, Marko Jovanovic, Medun Arsovic and Samson Hurey. Voros led the Tigers offensively with five goals, while Petlyanszki and Jovanovic each added two. Arsovic and Hurey each contributed one goal.
Despite the 18-12 setback, Salem continued to compete throughout the contest and showed resilience against a strong Iona squad.
Salem vs. John Hopkins University 7-17
Salem University wrapped up its final game of the weekend against Johns Hopkins University, with the Tigers battling from start to finish and falling short despite a strong effort throughout the contest.
The Tigers continued to fight until the final whistle, displaying determination and resilience against a strong Johns Hopkins squad. Salem was led offensively by Nandor Voros, who recorded two goals, while Rade Milosevic, Medun Arsovic, Samson Hurey and Antonio Sablic each added one goal. The Tigers continued to compete throughout the contest, showing tremendous effort as they closed out a challenging and competitive weekend.
Salem will look to build on the experience gained throughout the weekend as the Tigers continue their season.
