Carliss Robinson

Carliss Robinson begins his second year on the Salem University men’s basketball coaching staff.

In Robinson's first year on the bench, Salem posted an 18-8 record in 2019-20, marking the first time in 14 years the Tigers recorded at least 17 wins in back-to-back seasons. The Tigers also compiled an 11-game winning streak during the season, Salem's longest since opening the 2001-02 season with a 13-0 mark.

Robinson spent the previous four years as head men’s basketball coach at Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas, after serving as an assistant coach for one year. During Robinson’s tenure, Coastal Bend achieved its best post-season finish in program history, advancing to the NJCCA Region 14 semifinals. Coastal Bend also made NJCCA Tournament appearances in back-to-back seasons for the first time in conference history.

Under Robinson, numerous Coastal Bend men’s basketball student-athletes were nationally ranked statistically and went on to continue their collegiate careers at NCAA Division I and Division II schools, along with NAIA schools.

In addition to his coaching duties at Coastal Bend, Robinson was also a kinesiology instructor.

Prior to Coastal Bend, Robinson served two years as a men’s basketball graduate assistant at his alma mater, Southeastern Oklahoma State University. During his collegiate days, he lettered in football for two years before switching to basketball. He was selected as a team captain and earned Team Spirit and Most Outstanding Senior awards.

Robinson was a double major at Southeastern Oklahoma State, earning his bachelor’s degree in business management and health (physical education and recreation). He earned his master’s degree in sport science and athletics administration.
