Kaylyn Christopher

Kaylyn Christopher starts her second season as Cross Country/Track & Field Head Coach.

Christopher is a 2011 graduate of West Virginia University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in philosophy. She was a two-time NCAA indoor track and field All-American in the mile (12th place overall) and as a member of the Distance Medley Relay (8th place). Christopher also garnered Academic All-American honors two separate years, and holds the second-fastest time in the 1,000 meters at WVU. As a four-time competitor at the NCAA cross country championships WVU placed in the top 10 each year and brought home a 4th place showing in 2008.

"I'm thrilled to be in this position here at Salem," Christopher remarked. "I am ready to help the Tigers make a name for themselves on both the track and the cross country course.''

As a member of the University of Virginia, Christopher produced content for UVA Today, which highlights the research of the institution's students and faculty. She also distributed stories and press releases to local and national media outlets, while serving as a member of the Employee Engagement Council's Social and Culture Subcommittees.

Prior to making the move to UVA, she was the head women's cross country coach at Fairmont State University (2014-2016). Christopher coached three athletes to All-MEC accolades and guided the Fighting Falcons to their highest conference finish (4th) since 1989 (3rd).

Christopher returned to WVU in 2014, working in the College of Law as a Public Relations Specialist. She wrote press releases and feature articles about student, faculty, and college news. She held the position until Feb. 2016 when she moved to the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at WVU. As a Communications Specialist, she was responsible for the promotion of more than 40 programs (undergraduate, graduate, and certificate). She worked with deans and department chairs on website content and marketing materials.

A native of Kingwood, West Virginia, she attended Preston High School and currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia. In the past, she has served as a dog walker for the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA (2016) along with being an adoption outing volunteer with the Fluvanna County SPCA (2016).
