Director of Athletics and Head Softball Coach Steve Potts enters his 16th year with Salem University Athletics. He is in his sixth year as Director of Athletics and 13th year as Head Softball Coach after spending his first three years at Salem as an Assistant Softball Coach. Potts also served as Assistant Director of Athletics for three years.

Potts holds Tiger softball coaching records for most career wins with 142 and most wins in a season with 23 in 2016. In the past six seasons Potts has coached a combined nine All-Region and All-Conference players, including a Conference Player of the Year winner.

Potts is a 21-year veteran of the diamond and has lived in North Central West Virginia all of his life. After graduating from Bridgeport High School, he earned his undergraduate degree in business administration at Salem University.

Potts and his wife Marcy have four adult children - April, Alicia, Amy and Alexis - three of whom played softball at Salem for their father. The couple also have four grandchildren: Ethan, Mylee, Becklynn and Jolene.

In addition to the Tigers, Potts' favorite sports teams include the West Virginia University Mountaineers, Baltimore Orioles and Dallas Cowboys. Hobbies include hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family.

Potts and his wife are members of the Bridgeport Church of Christ.

Potts credits his upbringing in the state of West Virginia for his loyalty to the area.

"The people in West Virginia are brought up differently," said Potts. "Family comes as our number one priority. That sense of pride in our family and in our community is engraved in us. I hope that I can instill that sense into my players."
