Alec Moran

Alec Moran joined the Salem University men’s and women’s tennis staff as a graduate assistant coach in August 2019. Moran’s duties include assisting Head Coach Kyle Hoffman with the recruitment and development of men and women that exemplify the culture of Salem Tennis, as well as facilitating practice sessions, transportation of student-athletes to and from matches, team racket technician, social media coordinator, and much more. He is studying at Salem for his master’s of business administration with an emphasis in sports and parks management.

During Moran's first year at Salem, both the Tiger men's and women's tennis teams were ranked in the Atlantic Region Top 10. The Tigers were ranked No. 3 in the Atlantic Region Women's Top 10 and No. 10 in the Atlantic Region Men's Top 10. In a season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salem women's team posted a 5-1 record and the Salem men's team finished with a record of 4-1. Two of the Tiger women's tennis team's wins came against regional top 10 opponents.

In addition to his coaching duties, Moran served as play-by-play announcer for Salem men's and women's basketball video webcasts in 2019-20. He has also assisted the Salem Sports Information Department and Athletics Department in a number of graphics projects.

Moran graduated with a bachelor’s of science in architecture from Fairmont State University in 2018. He was a four-year member of the men’s tennis team at Fairmont State, which experienced a wealth of achievement during his time with the program. Led by Coach Hoffman, the 2017 team tied with two other schools for the Mountain East Conference regular season championship. In 2018, the team made its first ever NCAA Division II Regional appearance, with Fairmont State falling just one match short of the NCAA II "Sweet 16." Moran’s best career singles victory came in March 2016 when he defeated the No. 4 singles player from NCAA Division 1 Norfolk State. Moran was selected twice to the MEC All-Academic First Team.

Moran began teaching tennis as a high schooler, through the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, during the summers of 2013-2015. He has taught TGA tennis programs at Fairmont Catholic and East Park Elementary in 2018 and 2019. Moran began as a tennis instructor at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown, W.Va. at the beginning of 2019, where he teaches private lessons and clinics.

He was the assistant coach at Fairmont State University in spring 2019 under former West Virginia University head men’s tennis coach Terry Deremer. During the summer of 2019, Moran was a camp instructor for the WVU Women’s Tennis Day Camp, held at Summit Tennis Academy.

In his spare time, Moran still enjoys working on his own tennis game and plays USTA 4.5 competitively in the summer. He is a fan of most sports and follows the NFL, NBA and ATP. Moran also likes to create sports information media such as writing, content creation and video/audio podcasts. He aspires to be a college tennis coach and work within an athletics department on the administration side as well.

Moran is from Shinnston, W.Va. He is a graduate of Lincoln High School, where he holds the school record for career wins at No. 1 singles with 69. He was also the varsity basketball captain and was a member of the National Honor Society.
