Kyle Hoffman was named Salem University head men’s and women’s tennis coach in June 2019.
Both Salem men's and women's tennis teams were ranked in the Atlantic Region Top 10 in 2020. The Tigers were ranked No. 3 in the women's poll and No. 10 in the men's poll.
In a season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, Salem women's tennis posted a 5-1 record, while Salem men's tennis compiled a 4-1 record. Two of Salem's five women's tennis wins came against regional top 10 teams, Atlantic Region No. 5 Slippery Rock and Midwest Region No. 7 Michigan Tech.
Ana Kunic was named the 2020 ITA Division II Women's Tennis National Player To Watch, while Giancarlo Germinara was named 2020 ITA Division II Men's Tennis Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. Kunic and Germinara were among four Tiger tennis student-athletes to earn year-end Atlantic Region singles top 20 rankings.
Hoffman brings a wealth of success at the NCAA Division II coaching level to Salem. He spent three years as head men’s tennis coach at Fairmont State University, where he led the Falcons to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, along with the team’s first regular season conference title in 30 years. Fairmont State was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NCAA II Atlantic Region, the highest ranking in team history.
Hoffman was the 2017 ITA Atlantic Region Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year and also won Mountain East Conference Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year in back-to-back years. Hoffman’s teams produced eight All-MEC selections, including a Freshman of the Year winner. Player achievements also include a pair of wins over the No. 8-ranked player in the nation.
In addition to coaching collegiate tennis, Hoffman has also served as Associate Director for Recreation Programs for USTA Mid-Atlantic and as Tennis Director for Bridgeport Parks and Recreation.
Hoffman is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business management with minors in political science and sociology. He also earned his master’s in business management from West Virginia Wesleyan.
After beginning his collegiate tennis playing career as a walk-on, Hoffman went on to be named his team’s Most Improved Player. He was also named Team MVP in his senior year. Hoffman had only one singles loss and two doubles losses during his junior year.
Hoffman and his wife Alana have two sons.
