Salem University Athletics

Matt Carpenter is entering his third season as head coach at Salem as he took the helm for the Tigers prior to the 2023 season. 

Carpenter comes to Salem fresh off a successful stint as Head Volleyball Coach at Ritchie County High School from 2014 through 2022. In that time, he amassed 281 career wins with 2 State Runner Up Finishes, 7 West Virginia State Tournament Appearances, 2 conference championships, 3 sectional titles, and 4 regional titles. He also served on the WVSSAC Volleyball Rules Committee. During his time with Ritchie County, he also served as assistant coach in basketball, baseball, and track. At Salem, he holds an overall record of 10-49 going into 2025-2026.

Carpenter began his educational career at Ohio Valley University, before transferring to Fairmont State where he completed an undergraduate degree in 2002. He also competed as a tennis student-athlete for the Falcons.
