GLENVILLE, W.Va. (Nov. 10) – The Tigers scored a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-14, 25-20) over Glenville State Tuesday evening in a non-conference match.
The Salem International University volleyball team improves to 7-20 overall, while the Pioneers fall to 2-28 overall.
The Tigers were led by the freshman trio of
Tallora Soriano (San Antonio, Texas/Roosevelt),
Kara Kocurek (Orange Grove, Texas/Orange Grove) and
Sophie Freihofer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) who each had five kills in the win. Kocurek was particularly effective, killing five of her eight attempts (.625 hitting percentage).
Senior Brittany Nesbitt (Kansas City, Mo./Raytown South) guided the offense with 15 assists, while junior
Emerald Rosenbusch (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) led the defense with 16 digs.
Salem International made things difficult for Glenville State all night, limiting the Pioneers to 22 kills on 95 attempts with 24 attack errors (-.021). Glenville State had only eight kills on 40 attacks in the third set, with 11 errors (-.075).
The Tigers finish up the regular season this weekend with a pair of home matches, beginning on Friday, Nov. 13 when they host Davis & Elkins in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup at 6 p.m.
